Tom Nelson’s book imparts a lively and important retelling of the hard work done by so many to save great jobs in the paper industry right here in the “Paper Valley.” The book recounts the successful efforts to save the Appleton Coated mill that had been part of the local economy, and local lives, for 128 years when it faced being sold to an industrial scrapper. The story also covers the history of the paper industry including the contributions made by Henry Rogers (builder of Hearthstone), William and John Van Nortwick (Rogers’ business partners), and so many others, who founded the paper industry here and helped it flourish in its early years.

Importantly, half of all author royalties from the book are being donated to Hearthstone Historic House Museum. The other half are being donated to Jobs with Justice, a nonprofit organization fighting for workers’ rights.
